Muscles are ultimately the final expression of function of the brain and central nervous system. In fact, one of the main functions of the brain is to create movement. Understanding this is clinically invaluable when it comes to treating both musculoskeletal and neurological disorders using manual therapies. This course goes through in detail the neurophysiology of muscular function and muscle spindle integration with a focus on the functional clinical implications. It reviews muscle techniques and manipulative techniques that quickly and effectively change neuronal function. Concepts such as fast and slow muscle stretch techniques will be reviewed along with their applications. The idea of pyramidal weakness will be introduced with an emphasis on how it promotes disorders of the musculoskeletal and central nervous system. Practitioners taking this program will benefit from a better understanding of how the brain promotes aberrant muscular patterns and how to correct them in musculoskeletal dysfunction.
