– Professor Carrick, you’ve taught a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation certification program in the past. Many have credited that specific program with revolutionizing the way that many clinicians around the world treat patients that are suffering from concussion. What are the types of clinical updates that scholars can expect in this updated series?
– Well we’ve got a lot of experience treating people with TBI and our experience has been such that things that we’ve taught in the past have always been novel. We’ve given people new skills. My own skill sets have not been stagnant over the last 40 years and I’m better at doing things today than I was yesterday, and I could break out into song, not as great as it’s gonna be tomorrow. But our program now is evidence-based and the evidence is galloping forward. Our own personal evidence, our outcomes, our successes, and our ability to utilize novel technology that simply wasn’t there before, novel technology that’s not expensive, technology that patients need and demand at cost saving, better outcomes with better monitoring, more empirical data, and this is what we’re bringing to the table, an application-based model such that if you studied with us before and you’ve learned all sorts of new things, it’s sort of like a history lesson to what we’re gonna be talking about today. So this program is not for people who haven’t studied TBI before with us, it’s for people that have studied TBI before with us, and for people that really want to be able to do their best in the service of others that suffer from concussions, in regards to all of their treatment, their understanding, and an interdisciplinary binding, or collaboration that’ll make a difference in people’s lives.
