Praise and Positive Feedback in Concussed Patients

🧠 Carrick Insight: Did you know that praise and positive feedback activates regions in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the same area of the brain involved with executive function? 👨🏼‍💼 Interestingly enough, this is also a common area of the brain that experiences continued trouble after a concussion or traumatic brain injury. Injuries to this area often lead to impairments in executive functioning and personality and mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Staying positive during patient care, offering encouragement and praise throughout care, is therefore critical in the treatment of post-concussion syndrome. 👩🏻‍⚕️
